Welcome to Sogetsu San Francisco Bay Area Branch. Since 1973, we have presented the art of Sogetsu Ikebana to our community and countless visitors. Through the Branch’s programs, we hone our members’ artistic skills, ever mindful of the words of Sogetsu’s founder, Sofu Teshigahara (1900 – 1979), that “Ikebana is a formative art” which stresses individual creativity. Through our biennial flower shows, we present the many varied styles of Sogetsu Ikebana.

Our next meeting will be on June 2nd, at 12:30pm in the Recreation Room of the San Franciso County Fair Building.  It is a workshop/demonstration given by Katsuko Biko Thielke, who is noted for her weaving of natural materials.  Click here for the program announcement.  This program is sure to be exciting and inspiring.

The Calendar of Events lists future events, as well as past programs. We invite you to read about the history of both Ikebana in general and its contemporary realization as Sogetsu Ikebana. Information about joining a class in Sogetsu Ikebana is available, as well as how to join the Branch.

Ron Kodo Brown, our Director, has begun a bimonthly newsletter to keep our members informed of current Sogetsu events.  Here is the May newsletter.
